A Step Back: The Intro

This would be my first "travelogue" cum "memoir" that records my footsteps around the world. At this stage of life, I may not have traveled to a lot of countries/ places, but every moments and every steps taken count.

This blog comes with a story of how I learnt to love the people who selflessly love me. It also tells the story of how I learnt to appreciate what the world and the life has given to me. It shares the story of how I met the most influential friends whom became family in my life.

Let's take a few steps back to the first time I fly in an airplane.

I was born in a humble little city called Kuching. Kuching is the capital city in the state of Sarawak in Malaysia. Separated from the Peninsular by South China Sea, it is situated in the island of Borneo. Back when I was young and there was no budget airlines in Malaysia, it was already "something" to be able to travel to the Peninsular Malaysia.

However, I did not manage to go Peninsular Malaysia or Kuala Lumpur for my first trip with family. Instead, we flew to Singapore - one of my mum's favourite places to travel to. I came from a mid income family. Singapore was one of the cleanest, tidiest and safest city, most important - best shopping place for my mum back then. She still likes this country even till to date because she is so well familiar with the country, and this is the only foreign country where she feels safe and belonged.

Well I was of course extremely excited back then, although a bit disappointed for the fact that we won't be going KL (alright I wasn't the smartest kid). I remembered clearly the first time I went on board to MAS, the "scent" in the plane and the adrenaline from "Im gonna fly up high". I may not be the smartest kid but I was definitely a happy kid. XD

I remembered my elder brother accidentally spilled the hot tea at some point of the flight when there was turbulence. Oh, and my mum got us the playing cards from the flight attendance too. Kids used to get whatever "free gifts" they had in flight back then.

I was 7 during then.

It was approximately a 100 minutes flight but I didn't recall I got bored. I was happy all the way. The plane made a turn at Johor's air and that's when my brother told me - Look! This is Singapore. I look down from the window of the plane and I saw - endless palm oil trees! And then I asked my brother, this is how Singapore looks like? All trees? My brother who wasn't the first time traveled to Singapore gave me a cunning smile and said "Yes".

I turned to my mum and glazed at her in my almost teary eyes. "Mummy, Singapore only have trees!"...

So that was my first impression towards this small country. Palm oil farms and trees.
